Ten years ago my life was a total mess.
In fact I don’t remember much of 2015 because I was drunk for most of it.
Now, I’m clean and sober, living my country dream in my ideal home, following my passion, more content than ever.
I quite literally came out of the black thanks to colour therapy and I’ve identified 3 key ways that becoming colour conscious will help you manifest the shit out of life too.
In this post I’m sharing how you can use colour to:
Hack your subconscious mind
Shift, balance and expand your energy
Tune into the vibes, man.
Ready to live colour, fully?
Colour me curious
Back in 2014, divorce, depression and the resurfacing of childhood trauma resulted in some questionable life choices. I was partying way too hard with the wrong people in a desperate attempt to escape the pain. They were dark times.
I wasted FIVE YEARS like this.
Then Covid hit and suddenly everything stopped. I truly believe lockdown saved my life.
I started painting my way out of hell. It was so healing, expressing my emotions onto canvas.
After a while I noticed that my work flowed better when I used muted, neutral tones. I naturally gravitated to shades of taupe, brown, cream and black, with a bit of gold here and there.
Any time I tried to use more vibrant colours, all I created was a mess.
So I got curious. I love colour, but why was I finding it so hard to work with? I looked around me and it became apparent that my entire world was filled with the same restful yet uninspiring tones: my home was decorated in them, my wardrobe was full of them.
I did some digging (aka falling down a colour psychology rabbit hole) and realised my affinity with neutrals made me feel safe, calm and most of all, unobtrusive.
But it was also keeping me stuck.
I dug into my own mind to find out why, and uncovered several negative colour associations in the process. As soon as I was aware of the problems, I was able to set about solving them.
Next I began introducing different colours into my environment to change my energy depending on how I wanted to feel.
Then I started choosing colours intentionally to match my desires.
By consciously working with colour in these ways I’ve been able to change thought patterns and beliefs, maintain emotional balance and move to a higher vibration that is is alignment with what I want to manifest.
Here are three key ways colour can transform your life from the inside out:
1. Hack Your Subconscious Mind
Think you’re in control of your life? Na-uh. Your subconscious runs the show. Everything we do is driven by our subconscious beliefs about ourselves and the world. Which is why you must start by going within if you want to change your reality.
But how can you reprogram the subconscious if you don’t know what’s lurking in there? Colour is a wonderful catalyst for shining a light on what your mind really thinks.
For example, I had subconsciously associated bright colours with attention-seeking and embarrassment because when I was about 12 we had a bright yellow Datsun Cherry that I was so ashamed to be seen in because I thought everyone would be staring and making fun of it.
Now that I am aware of this I am making conscious effort to change this false belief by focussing on yellow as a colour for learning and cognitive improvement instead.
2. Shift Your Energy
Feeling anxious, frazzled, or like you’ve had one too many double-shot espressos? Certain colours like sage green, deep inky blues or neutrals, or can help calm the chaos.
On the flip-side if you’re feeling tired, lethargic and a bit poo, hot colours like red or orange can get you moving or inspire creativity.
Look at how and where you use colour so that you can bring balance to your energy. It’s not a good idea to paint your bedroom in bright colours if you have difficulty sleeping. Or wearing grey to the office when you already don’t give a shit about work!
It’s also worth remembering that colour is not a ‘one size fits all’. For example, the general consensus is that blue is a calming colour but for me it has the opposite effect—it makes me feel isolated and gives me anxiety (I’m still working through step one with that one!). Don’t force yourself to use a certain colour if it’s really not working for you.
3. Tuning Your Vibezzz
Colour is essentially visible energy. Every colour has a unique vibration. And it’s like an emotional tuning fork. Surround yourself with colours that are on the same frequency as your intention, and boom—your dreams and your energy are on the same wavelength.
It’s like tuning a radio. If you want to listen to Smooth Sexy Jazz FM but you’re tuned to Death Metal Hitz (Rock On) then you gotta turn the dial.
For example, I am manifesting making money from writing so I sit and tippy-tap away on my desk that has a green and gold top. And I’ve painted one wall of my office in a lovely burnt orange to inspire creativity. Shit like that makes you embody the emotion of what you want to call in.
Final Thoughts
There’s more to colour than meets the eye.
It’s a powerful tool that can change your whole life. By getting colour conscious and strategically working with different hues to rewire your subconscious, shift your energy, and fine tune your vibrational alignment, you’ll be able to not only create your dream life, but to design it—from the inside out.
Love this. Fascinating 🥰
You know, that's something I never thought about before. But even reading through your post and the names of the colours, I can feel how some feel more calming than others.
I also remember, the great Dan Kennedy saying that he writes with a green pen because he associates green with wealth.
