5 Colours To Avoid In The Home If You Want To Be Wealthy
Manifestation gets easier when your space is working with you, not against you.
Your home can either act as a money magnet—or a money drain. And I’m not talking about adding a new conservatory or constant repair work.
Obvs I’m talking about colour, cos that’s my thing innit?
Because yes, the colours in your immediate environment can absolutely affect your ability to manifest wealth—or anything else you desire to attract.
Colour is about so much more than aesthetics. It’s an integral part of feng shui, and interior design, but not just because of the visual appeal.
The colours you surround yourself with at home have a huge impact on your energy field. Because they carry a frequency. And if that frequency clashes with the vibe of abundance—or whatever else you want—you could be unknowingly repelling the very thing you’re trying to call in.
Yikes.
My last home was a rather achromatic affair—all neutrals, white and black. It was a place I felt calm and protected—exactly what I needed while going through a tough healing process—but although it was keeping me safe, it was also keeping me stuck.
Now it’s a different story. I’m intentionally surrounding myself with colours that are helping me flourish while also staying grounded.
So if you’ve been religiously doing all the things you ‘should’ do…but the money still isn’t flowing take a look around your space.
It might be your colour palette that’s throwing your energy off.
But before you rush off to B&Q (or Home Depot, for my Stateside friends), here are 5 colours to avoid in your home if you want to be wealthy—and some simple swaps to get you back in flow.
1. Black
No, it’s not because black is evil. It’s chic, it’s grounding, and in small doses, it can even feel luxe. But when it dominates a space (especially in the wealth corner or entrance—where I had it), it can create a sense of heaviness, isolation, and energetic stagnation.
In feng shui, black represents water energy, which is powerful but can feel overwhelming if not balanced. Too much black can drown your ambitions and make your home feel like a void rather than a magnet.
Try instead: Rich jewel tones like deep emerald or sapphire to bring sophistication without sucking the energy dry, or warm woody browns for stability.
2. Grey
Hands up who painted everything grey 10 years ago? Grey might be the darling of modern interiors, but from a manifesting perspective? It’s a total vibe killer.
Grey is draining to the point of blah. Energetically, it represents indecision, emotional fog, and not giving a fck. Not what you want when you’re trying to channel wealth, confidence, and power moves.
Try instead: Swap cold greys for soft taupes, creamy beiges, or even a muted gold to bring warmth and flow back into the space.
3. White
Yes, it’s clean. Yes, it’s minimalist. But too much white? It creates a sterile, disconnected energy.
In my last place my bedroom was all white—which I liked but in hindsight it didn’t exactly create a welcoming space. Probably why I’m still single (lolz).
White is the colour of possibility and unlimited potential—but without anchoring it with warmer tones or accents, your space can make you feel cold, empty and directionless.
It’s a metal element in feng shui and if you want to manifest anything—especially money—you need softness.
Try instead: Add colour through art, textiles, plants, or accessories. Even warm whites or off-whites with yellow or pink undertones can soften the vibe and keep things feeling more alive and abundant.
4. Bright Red
This one might surprise you, because in feng shui, red is considered lucky. But context matters.
Too much bright red can feel aggressive, chaotic, and overwhelming. It spikes adrenaline, raises the heart rate, and puts you in fight-or-flight mode—not ideal for receiving or attracting on any level.
Try instead: Use red sparingly—as an accent rather than a main character. If you want warmth and vitality without the chaos, terracotta, rust, or burgundy tones are beautiful alternatives.
5. Bright Yellow
Yellow adds a bit of fun but it’s overstimulating. Although it may seem like a happy colour, bright sunshine yellow in particular can create a jarring, anxious atmosphere.
It’s high-pitched, mentally exhausting, and can actually increase nervous tension.
If creating wealth is about ease, trust, and expansion, bright yellow is doing the opposite.
Try instead: Go for buttery yellows, honey golds, or soft ochres that feel rich, warm, and grounding.
Bonus Tips to Support Abundance Vibes:
🍑 Use peach tones in a dining area to create a sociable, nourishing atmosphere (in feng shui, this helps boost relationships and digestion—both key for abundance).
💙 Try dark green or navy blue in the bedroom to support deeper rest and calm the nervous system. Manifesting must always be practiced from a peaceful state.
🌿 Bring in plants (real ones!) for vibrant wood energy, especially in the wealth area of your home (that’s the far left corner from your front door, btw).
🖼 And don’t underestimate art and imagery—what you look at every day becomes embedded in your subconscious. Choose visuals that evoke richness, beauty, or the kind of lifestyle you’re calling in. Avoid anything too graphic, geometric or text-based.
Fade to black
When it comes to manifesting wealth (or anything else) your home is either supporting your energy—or subtly sabotaging it. Colour isn’t just décor; it’s a frequency that speaks to your subconscious 24/7.
By making a few intentional shifts in your space, you can clear stuck energy and start aligning with the abundance you actually want.
So if money’s been hanging out somewhere else, create a space that you’re proud to invite it in to.
It’s time to repaint… and recalibrate.
